iPhone and iPad owners received a new software update today from Apple in the form of iOS 10.3.1.
The new iOS 10.3.1 update comes just a week after Apple released iOS 10.3, which was its biggest software update of 2017 so far. While iOS 10.3.1 doesn’t contain nearly as many new features as the last update, it does bring some crucial fixes.
iOS 10.3.1 can be downloaded directly to your iPhone or iPad via an over-the-air update in the Settings app. You can also install it via iTunes.
What’s inside iOS 10.3.1?Don’t expect to see any major changes after installing the new software. Apple has mostly focused on under-the-hood improvements in this update.
Release notes for iOS 10.3.1 only mention that the update “includes bug fixes and improves the security of your iPhone or iPad.” Digging into the security document reveals the update fixes a Wi-Fi flaw discovered by one of Google’s Project Zero engineers. The flaw allowed an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the Wi-Fi chip.
Apple is currently testing its next update iOS 10.3.2. The first beta of the update was seeded to developers last week, adding a number of bug fixes and performance improvements.
