Apple has made no secret of the fact that it takes the security of its product offerings extremely seriously.
The company’s iPhone, which is powered by iOS, is regularly put under scrutiny, and in recent times has been in the news due to the fact that iOS 10 has been jailbroken, with the CIA’salleged ability to hack iOS via multiple vulnerabilities in older versions also becoming public knowledge thanks to a data dump on Wikileaks.
Now, it seems that Apple is taking yet more measures to strengthen security on iPhone, with renowned security expert and jailbreak developerJonathan Zdziarski publicly acknowledging that he has accepted a job within Apple’s Security Engineering and Architecture team.
Zdziarski’slong list of abilities definitely speak for themselves. As an iPhone forensics expert, a one-time developer of software for jailbroken iOS-powered devices, and well-versed security researcher with a passion for mobile, and in particular the iOS platform, he is definitely the type of person that would instantly bring expertise and return on investment to Apple Inc.:
I’m pleased to announce that I’ve accepted a position with Apple’s Security Engineering and Architecture team, and am very excited to be working with a group of like minded individuals so passionate about protecting the security and privacy of others.
This decision marks the conclusion of what I feel has been a matter of conscience for me over time. Privacy is sacred; our digital lives can reveal so much about us our interests, our deepest thoughts, and even who we love. I am thrilled to be working with such an exceptional group of people who share a passion to protect that.
Zdziarski’s public sentiments about protecting the privacy of users, along with the proclamation that “privacy is scared”, definitely mirrors the thoughts of Apple as a company, with Zdziarski also being a pivotal part of Apple’s caseagainst the FBI when the agency tried to force Tim Cook’s company to unlock an iPhone used in the San Bernardino shooting in California.
He has also sat on the opposite side of the fence in direct opposition with Apple during his time with the iPhone Dev team and Chronic Dev Team under the moniker “NerveGas”. It looks as though we will see less of Zdziarskiin a social setting via the likes of Twitter, but we definitely look froward to reaping the benefits of his involvement with Apple as a security expert.
