Overshadowed by the 7.1.2 Developer Preview , the February security patch is beginning to rollout. Still on 7.1.1, there are fixes for 35vulnerabilities, with factory images and OTAs now available for current Pixel and Nexus devices.
For the Pixel and Pixel XL, Rogers notes bug fixes, with devices on thatCanadian carrier receiving their own specific build. Verizon lists that this update increases “reliability of sending and receiving calls with the Honda Bluetooth Carkit.”
There are 16issues resolved in the security patch dated2017-02-01 and 19in the 2017-02-05 one. According to Google, the two security patch level strings provide “Android partners with the flexibility to more quickly fix a subset of vulnerabilities that are similar across all Android devices.”
Nexus and Pixeldevices will receive the latterpatch, while devices from other manufactures, like Sony ,will alsoinclude OEM-specific fixes.
The vulnerabilities rangefrom moderate tocritical, with the most severepossiblyenabling remote code execution whenbrowsing, using email, orMMS. As usual, Google notesthat there are no reports of customers being affected by these security issues.
