Jeff Bezos of Amazon.

AT&T will partner with Amazon Web Services, letting joint customers use AWS’s cloud servicesover AT&T’sworldwidenetwork. The multi-year deal ― terms of which were not disclosed ― is designed to help new and existing customers transition to the cloud, assisting with security, analytics and the Internet of Things.

AT&T’s NetBond, a method of connecting using a virtual private network, will play a major role in the partnership. The company’s network already connects nearly 29 million devices in 200 countries, and those devices can be managed with AWS’s IoT services. AT&T will employ its Threat Intellect technology to provide analytics that help AWS users improve security.

“For many enterprises, the cloud’s potential can be equal parts tantalizing and challenging. Emerging technology trends and fluctuating needs mean that a company’s plans are dynamic, and can quickly change,” said Mo Katibeh , Senior Vice President, Advanced Solutions, AT&T Business Solutions, in a release today. “Together, AT&T and AWS can help streamline the leap to the cloud. We’re helping businesses connect everything and anything to the cloud. More importantly, we’re doing this so it can be simple, scalable and highly secure.”

Earlier this week, AT&T struck a deal with IBM to more widely distribute AT&T’s FlexWare virtual network-management software and to run AT&T applications on IBM’s cloud. AT&T has also entered at least one partnership with Microsoft involving its cloud service, Azure.

AWS by most measures is the world’s leading provider of public infrastructure and platform as services delivered over the internet, followed by Azure.
